Cardinal DiNardo

I have been following with great interest the papal conclave and election of Pope Francis but have been somewhat disappointed in the lack of coverage on a relevant local angle to recent events in Rome.

In reading the Post-Gazette since Pope Benedict's resignation last month, there have been only a handful of stories mentioning Cardinal Daniel DiNardo, a Pittsburgh area native who currently heads the Galveston-Houston Archdiocese in Texas, and none during the conclave mentioning him as a contender for the position of pope. Cardinal DiNardo has been fully participating in the papal conclave and was a candidate to be elected pope.

I and many of my family members have had the pleasure of knowing Cardinal DiNardo over the years. Even though he was not among the frequently rumored names as papal successor, those who know Cardinal DiNardo as a friend, brother, uncle and parish priest would hardly be surprised to discover that he had received serious consideration within the conclave at Vatican City.
