Bad headline

I am having a hard time imagining a more offensive headline than the one chosen for the story on Duquesne students being offered an education in nearby districts ("Official: Export Duquesne K-6 Pupils in the Fall," Feb. 12). To suggest that any human beings, particularly young children who are predominantly African American, are being "exported" is disgusting.

As adults it is our role to protect children and treat them with dignity and respect -- and to model for them how we expect them to act. The end of the Duquesne school district is sad, although likely unavoidable -- and it appears likely what is best for the children. However, this is not a business transaction through NAFTA, so stop referring to it as such.
