Am I better off?

I am a retiree and thought I had it made, had a nice 401(k) and Social Security to take care of me. I retired in September 2007, the month before the meltdown of the banking industry and the housing market, as well as my 401(k). Things were starting to look bleak.
The Dow closed at 7,949 on Jan. 20, 2009, the date of President Barack Obama's inauguration. Last Friday the Dow closed at 13,306. By my calculation, that is a 67 percent increase.
Am I better off? Without a doubt!
