A winning Batch

I can't begin to describe how elated I felt when Steel Valley's Charlie Batch led our beloved Steelers down the field, allowing the team the opportunity to kick the winning field goal at the end of the Baltimore Ravens game. The embrace that he and Ben Roethlisberger had was truly touching. This may have been a defining moment at the end of a long career and, if so, it's always better to go out a winner than a loser.

That being said, Charlie will never be considered a loser because I have seen firsthand what he has done for the young kids in the Steel Valley community where I grew up. Many men would like to consider their time on the field as their legacy and being a Super Bowl champion is certainly something to be proud of and cherish. However, Charlie's ultimate legacy will be how he overcame extreme adversity and grief in his life and turned that into something really beautiful and positive.

The "man" is so much greater than his football accomplishments that he had no reason to worry about how his career might end. Congratulations Charlie, you deserved that win and thank you for being such a positive role model when the world has so few left!
