A fitting memorial

I would like to appeal to Dr. Barbara Baker of the Pittsburgh Zoo and our community leaders not to reopen the African Wild Dog exhibit at the zoo. I feel it would be highly disrespectful to the memory of precious little Maddox Derkosh and his family to have the animals that caused his death on display in the very area where it happened. This is sacred ground where a baby's life was lost and should be treated as such.

Even though I did not know little Maddox or his family, I, like many in our community and around the country are grieving for him and his parents. This far reaching sense of sorrow is why I respectfully am requesting that the exhibit be transformed into a permanent memorial for Maddox. It would be a place for his family and the community to start healing. A memorial would allow everyone to be close to him, to share our sorrow, and collectively pay tribute to this beautiful little boy who has had a great impact on so many.
