This is Spring?: Mother Nature has evidently lost her calendar

Calling out public figures when they disappoint is not unusual for an editorial page. Today the civic leader who has let us down is Mother Nature.
We don't mean to be disrespectful, and we understand that having dominion over all things weather-wise would keep any mythical being pretty busy. But something is wrong. She seems to be off her game.
When Spring broke at 7:02 a.m. yesterday, it was 27 degrees at Pittsburgh International Airport. That's not the dawn of anyone's dreams at this point in the year.
This has been a particularly dreary winter. It wasn't all that cold -- both December and January were warmer than usual, according to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh. But we had 50.3 inches of snow compared with normal snowfall of 38.7 inches for the season.
Even more annoying was the number of days on which there was at least a trace of snow -- 68 out of the 140 days since the first flurries hit on Oct. 31. Things weren't so bad in November and December, but after the first of the year, days without snow became progressively more rare. In January, there was some snow on 19 days; in February, 20. As of Tuesday, there was at least a trace of snow on 13 days this month. All we can say is, make it stop.
We didn't miss it yesterday when the sun popped out for a bit, but that only leaves us begging for more. We're itching for springtime -- pollen, stink bugs and all.
