Risky drilling

If shale drilling is too risky for wealthy Pennsylvania counties, it is too risky for everyone. Bucks and Montgomery county residents can breathe easier because their representatives snuck a shale drilling moratorium for them into state law.

In April, these same legislators voted for the Marcellus Shale impact bill that forces municipalities to permit drilling in residential zones, allows private companies to use eminent domain for company gas lines, and officially interferes with doctors' health care communications.

The new technology in Marcellus wells is accident-prone, averaging one major environmental violation/accident per well. Multinational investors own most Pennsylvania leases; they will ship the gas overseas and leave us with all the risks. We will all breathe easier with a shale drilling moratorium.
