Symptoms and treatment of pets in distress

Symptoms

• Excessive, loud panting and drooling

• Difficulty breathing

• Lethargic; refusing to do anything after exercise

Treatment

• Gradually cool to prevent shock

• Place in air-conditioned room

• Wrap paws in water-soaked towel

• Spray rubbing alcohol on pads of feet, careful not to allow animal to lick fluid

See a veterinarian immediately if the dog cannot stop panting after several minutes, collapses or becomes unconscious.
