2nd teacher held on sex claim

LOS ANGELES -- A second teacher at an inner-city elementary school where a teacher is accused of committing lewd acts on 23 children was arrested Friday on suspicion of fondling two girls in his classroom.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Capt. Mike Parker said Martin B. Springer, 49, of Alhambra was arrested four days after allegations surfaced against the first teacher, but there was no known connection between the two cases. Mr. Springer was being held on $2 million bail.

Mr. Parker said the victims in the second case were about 7 and 8 years old and were fondled once each in a classroom at Miramonte Elementary School during the past three years.

Manning faces court martial

HAGERSTOWN, Md. -- An Army officer ordered a court-martial Friday for a low-ranking intelligence analyst charged in the biggest leak of classified information in U.S. history.

The referral means Pfc. Bradley Manning will stand trial for allegedly giving more than 700,000 secret U.S. documents and classified combat video to the anti-secrecy website WikiLeaks for publication.

The 24-year-old Crescent, Okla., native faces 22 counts, including aiding the enemy. He could be imprisoned for life if convicted of that charge. No trial date has been set.

Torah rescues were a fraud

NEW YORK -- For years Rabbi Menachem Youlus, a self-described "Jewish Indiana Jones," received plaudits from those captivated by his stories of traveling to Eastern Europe and beyond to search for historic Torahs that were lost or hidden during the Holocaust.

But on Thursday, Rabbi Youlus stood inside the federal courthouse in Manhattan and confessed that he had made up those tales of daring.

The rabbi, 50, then pleaded guilty to mail fraud and wire fraud, admitting that he had used the U.S. Postal Service and emails to further a scheme to steal money while claiming to be saving and restoring historic Torahs.
