For smartphone users traveling to the presidential inauguration this weekend, maps, schedules and other information will be a click away.
Even those staying home will find the app useful for viewing live video of inaugural events.
The Presidential Inaugural Committee is launching a smartphone application that will provide access to D.C. maps, inauguration schedules, locations of portable toilets, video feed, blog content, photos and volunteer opportunities connected with the National Day of Service on Saturday. The app also syncs with Facebook, Twitter, email and text messaging programs that will allow for seamless content sharing across social media platforms.
The app will allow Americans to be part of the inauguration wherever they happen to be, Presidential Inaugural Committee officials said.
"We've designed our app to make sure folks across this country don't miss a moment of history. Whether you're in Washington, D.C., or any other part of the nation, there are plenty of ways to be involved in this inauguration through this app," said Steve Kerrigan, the committee's president and chief executive.
The app is available for iPhones, iPads and Android devices. Point your Web browser to http://action.2013pic.org/page/s/official-app%20, and enter your cell phone number to have the app sent directly to your mobile device.
The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies is launching a separate mobile-optimized website designed to help people attending Monday's midday swearing-in ceremony. To access the site, point mobile browsers to www.inaugural.senate.gov.
