Three bridges -- the Ambridge-Aliquippa Bridge in Beaver County, the South Highland Avenue Bridge in Shadyside and the Levi Bird Duff Bridge over Interstate 79 in Ross -- were scheduled to close today for repairs.
The $23.6 million project to rehabilitate the Ambridge-Aliquippa Bridge over the Ohio River will detour traffic to the Sewickley Bridge for the second straight year. Work is scheduled for completion around Thanksgiving.
The City of Pittsburgh expects to complete a $2.9 million replacement of the South Highland Avenue Bridge in time to reopen it for vehicles and pedestrians in mid-September, while the $3 million Allegheny County project on the bridge carrying Cornell Road over the parkway is expected to be complete Nov. 1.
The bridge, between Exit 5 at Perrysville and Exit 7 at West View, will remain open to pedestrians.
Two bus routes are being detoured in Shadyside: the 71B Highland Park and 75 Ellsworth. The bridge work in Ross is detouring the 13 Bellevue route.
