Port Authority CEO Steve Bland's name has surfaced as a candidate for yet another top transit job, this one in Atlanta.

It was learned last week that Mr. Bland, who joined Port Authority in 2006, is under consideration for executive director of the Jacksonville Transportation Authority in Florida.

He is also in the running for general manager of MARTA, the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, Port Authority spokesman Jim Ritchie confirmed today.

Mr. Ritchie said Mr. Bland did not initiate communications with either transit agency but said his name is surfacing through the efforts of executive search firms.

"They identify candidates meeting the criteria they're looking for," Mr. Ritchie said. "Steve's name is getting put into the mix."

Mr. Ritchie reiterated a statement made last week by Mr. Bland in which he said he is looking forward to continuing work at the Port Authority and tackling the challenges facing the transit agency.

No one from MARTA could be reached for comment.
