Mayor pushes funds to boost Pittsburgh bicycling

Mayor Luke Ravenstahl is spearheading legislation that would provide about $135,000 for more bicycle infrastructure and to start an educational campaign to encourage bike safety.
The legislation, introduced Tuesday before City Council, would pave the way for the city to paint a portion of the bike lane on Liberty Avenue green to make it more visible, a project that will be funded in part by a $23,000 grant from Bikes Belong.
Also, with the help of federal money through the U.S. Transportation Department's Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program, the city will put $100,000 toward an educational program for motorists, advising them on how to share the road safely with cyclists.
