Santorum speaks in favor of Romney at Republican Convention

TAMPA -- This wasn't the speech Rick Santorum wanted to give here at the Republican National Convention. Instead of accepting the presidential nomination, tonight he lauded his one-time competitor, railed against abortion and told delegates that big government won't solve the nation's problems.
"In America, I believe in freedom and the responsibility that comes with it to work hard to make the dream of reaching our God-given potential come true," the former U.S. senator from Pennsylvania said.
His speech was interrupted by a lone protester who screamed from the rafters for about three minutes before being peaceably ejected. "End the war in Iraq," she yelled. "End the war on women!"
Mr. Santorum ignored her and carried on with remarks that included parts of well-worn campaign speech about gazing at his grandfather's hands in his casket and being grateful that he had worked hard in the coal mines and that he had dared to dream.
"I never asked him but I think his answer would have been that
America gave him more than he ever hoped. America believed in him, and that's why he believed in America," Mr. Santorum said.
Now, he said, too few Americans are achieving their dreams.
"President Obama spent four years and borrowed $5 trillion trying to convince you that he could make things better for you, to put your trust in him and the government to take care of every problem," he said. "The president's plan didn't work for America because that's not how America works."
