Tonya Payne

Age: 45
Residence: Hill District
Experience: Currently a member of City Council, Ms. Payne was elected in 2005 when she was the Democratic Party's 1st Ward chairperson and the president of the Uptown Community Action Group. She defeated the incumbent Sala Udin, for the party's nomination in the primary that year. She had been an aide in his office until he fired her in 1997. In the 2005 general election, she defeated Republican Alan Perry.

Robert Daniel Lavelle

Age: 31
Residence: Hill District
Experience: Graduate of Schenley High School and Kent State University. Worked as a legislative aide to former City Councilman Sala Udin for three years starting in 2001. He then became a political organizer for Americans for Democratic Action, which included developing community agendas for towns in the region, organizing candidate forums and other activities. Currently he is on leave from his position as chief of staff for state Rep. Jake Wheatley. He also works for his family's business, Lavelle Real Estate Inc.

Mark Brentley Sr.

Age: 52
Residence: North Side
Experience: Member of the Pittsburgh Board of Education since 1999, he is a laborer for the City of Pittsburgh. He has been a radio and television host. He is founder of the school district's annual "Take a Father to School Day" and co-founder of Our Daughters Place, a residential group home for adolescent girls located in the Hill District.
