Hillary Rodham Clinton, a woman of many homes, says the Chicago suburb of Park Ridge, with its brick houses, smooth streets and scrubbed children, made her who she is.

Whether it will make her president is a different matter and more a task of ranking what's left of the field come November than of anointing a favorite daughter on Super Tuesday.

To date, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, who was raised in Hawaii but who now lays claim to status as the official local in the race, has easily outdistanced Mrs. Clinton in fund raising among Park Ridge's well-off Democrats.

The local Democratic committee has endorsed Mrs. Clinton, but when locals talk about the contest, they talk about Mrs. Clinton as the celebrity and Mr. Obama as the contender.
