Bill Mullen took over the role of Allegheny County Sheriff when Pete DeFazio retired abruptly amid a federal corruption investigation.
In the Nov. 6 general election, he is being challenged for the post by Republican Edward J. Kress, an attorney.
The two candidates appeared before Post-Gazette editorial writers earlier this month. The newspaper's endorsement appears today both in print and online.
Mr. Mullen, 61, resides in Banksville. Mr. Kress, 36, lives in Shaler.
