Runners wanted for MS cross-country trek

MS Run for the US Inc. is looking for 10 more runners to run across the country to raise $500,000 to help find a cure for multiple sclerosis.
This will be the inaugural cross-country run for MS Run for the US Inc., a foundation started by Ashley Kumlien of Brookfield, Wis. Ashley's mother, Jill, suffers from the debilitating disease, which attacks the central nervous system, and for which there is no cure.
MS affects about 400,000 Americans, mostly between the ages of 20 and 50. It's very expensive to treat. The quality of life for people living with MS can be enhanced with medications; rehabilitation that includes physical, speech and cognitive therapy; and techniques and devices that help with everyday living.
The relay is slated to begin in Los Angeles April 16 and finish in New York City on Sept. 6. The runners will follow the route Ms. Kumlien took in her transcontinental run two years ago to raise money for MS research. She ran the equivalent of nearly a marathon a day, six days a week for six months to raise about $56,000 in donations.
Runners this year won't have to run nearly that far. Ms. Kumlien has divided the route into 22 segments of approximately 140 miles each. Each runner selected for the relay will run one segment and be expected to complete it in six days.

Los Angeles to Barstow, Calif.; Barstow to Las Vegas; Las Vegas to Milford, Utah; Milford to Nephi, Utah; Nephi to Vernal, Utah; Vernal to Craig, Colo.; Craig to Dillon, Colo.; Dillon to Denver; Denver to Wray, Colo.; Wray to Arapahoe, Neb.; Arapahoe to Fairmont, Neb.; Fairmont to Oakland, Iowa; Oakland to Reasnor, Iowa; Reasnor to Davenport, Iowa; Davenport to Joliet, Ill.; Joliet to Fort Wayne, Ind.; Fort Wayne to Willard, Ohio; Willard to Youngstown, Ohio; Youngstown to Clearfield, Pa.; Clearfield to Mahanoy City, Pa.; Mahanoy City to Fort Lee, N.J.; Fort Lee to New York City.
