Fitness center for vision-impaired opens

The Michael A. Romano Fitness Center at Blind & Vision Rehabilitation Services of Pittsburgh at 1800 West St., Homestead, formally will be reopened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 this morning.
The fitness center, which is designed to meet the needs of vision-impaired people, recently moved to a larger space within the facility and features new exercise equipment purchased by donations from Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, the Robert & Mary Weisbrod Foundation and the William B. McLaughlin Charitable Trust.
Mr. Romano is a former chairman of the board of Blind & Vision Rehabilitation Services of Pittsburgh and a former senior vice president of Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield. The fitness center named after him currently is open to staff and BVRS clients. It is planned to soon be open to the entire community.
