Children's Hospital is beginning a pediatric sports medicine program that will specialize in treating non-surgical fractures, strains and joint and muscle pain in children and teens.
Rajat Jain, 30, will be the lead physician for Children's Sports Medicine. Dr. Jain is board certified in pediatrics and internal medicine, with additional qualifications in sports medicine.
A 2006 graduate of Ohio State University College of Medicine, Dr. Jain has trained at UPMC Sports Medicine and has served as assistant team physician for Norwin School District.
"My goal is to get any child back to his or her activity, pain free, as quickly as possible," Dr. Jain said Tuesday.
Working with Dr. Jain will be Jan Grudziak, a pediatric orthopedic surgeon at Children's. Dr. Grudziak will concentrate on surgical procedures while Dr. Jain will focus on non-surgical treatments.
Dr. Jain will specialize in treating young athletes, but his services will be available to all pediatric patients.
"I had several injuries as a kid, and as a sports fan, I found [the field] to be quite intriguing," he said about his decision to focus on sports medicine.
Children's Sports Medicine services will be offered at five locations, including Children's Hospital North, just off Interstate 79 at 2599 Wexford Bayne Road, Franklin Park, and Children's East, 4055 Monroeville Blvd., Monroeville, and in Norwin, Moon and the South Hills.
