Some of bodybuilding's biggest names -- and perhaps some of the sport's future stars -- will take to the stage Friday and Saturday at the annual Pittsburgh Bodybuilding, Fitness and Figure Championships.
Figure prejudging begins at 6 p.m. Friday at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall in Oakland, and bodybuilding prejudging begins at 10 a.m. Saturday. Finals for all competitors start at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, also at Soldiers & Sailors.
The promoter of the contest, Jim Manion, a former Mr. Pittsburgh , has lined up eight guest posers, a virtual Who's Who of bodybuilding.
They include current Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman and other top International Federation of Bodybuilders competitors Jay Cutler, Gunter Schlierkamp, Dexter Jackson, Gustavo Badell, Melvin Anthony, Victor Konolav and Bill Wilmore.
The future stars could be winners of the various divisions of the contest: In bodybuilding, Teen Men, Masters men over 35, Masters men over 40, 50 and 60, Novice men, Open women, and the 56th annual Mr. Pittsburgh contest, which is open only to men from Western Pennsylvania.
In fitness and figure, women champions also will be crowned.
Reserved tickets for the finals are $30 at the door. General admission prejudging tickets, also available at the door, are $10. For more information, call 412-276-5027.
