Pittsburgh's three rivers have been named Rivers of the Year by the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
The Allegheny, Monongahela and Ohio rivers won the designation because of their role in spurring economic growth, shaping the city's urban renewal and providing more water-based recreation, state officials said.
Because of the designation, the three rivers will be featured in a Rivers Month poster that will be issued in June.
Three Rivers Sojourn, which will involve canoe trips, will be Aug. 10-12.
