Phipps to host 'green' talks

Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens and the Green Building Alliance will launch monthly talks featuring a wide range of experts on Oct. 11.
The Inspire Speakers Series will begin with George Bandy, vice president of Interface, a sustainably operated manufacturing company. Also speaking will be architect Christine Mondor, who has experience as project architect for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, one of the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rated buildings in the country. She has provided green building consulting for clients, including the Carnegie Libraries of Pittsburgh, Alcoa Corp. and Carnegie Mellon University.

Nov. 8: Bill Reed and Joel Glanzberg.
Dec. 13: David Sobel.
Jan. 10: Faculty from Seattle's Bertschi School.
Feb. 14: Steve Ashkin and Vivian Loftness.
March 14: Stephen Ritz.
April 11: Majora Carter.
May 9: David Orr.
June 13: special guest.
Cost for each talk, which will be held at Phipps: $25 for members of GBA, Phipps and Tri-State Area School Study Council, as well as students with valid IDs; $45 for nonmembers. Information and to register: www.go-gba.org.
