Tutoring groups form partnership

The Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council and the OASIS Institute announced Tuesday they are teaming up to help tutor children in the Pittsburgh and Woodland Hills school districts.
In the partnership, the literacy council will manage the Pittsburgh office and look for ways to make the program grow.
Since 2001, OASIS volunteers -- who are age 50 and older -- have been tutoring students in K-3 who are below grade level in reading. Last year, the volunteers helped in 23 city schools and six schools in Woodland Hills.
The literacy council is known for its adult literacy programs and has two family literacy centers in Whitehall and Downtown serving parents and their children.
