Seneca Valley Middle School in Harmony was named today by the U.S. Department of Education as one of eight 2012 National Blue Ribbon Schools in Pennsylvania.

Nationwide, 269 schools were named Blue Ribbon schools based on their overall academic excellence or for making progress in improving student academic achievement levels. Seneca Valley Middle School was chosen for its "exemplary high performance" which means it is recognized as among the state's highest-performing schools.

The 219 public and 50 private schools chosen will be honored at a recognition ceremony Nov. 12-13 in Washington, D.C.
