Pitt names new general counsel

P. Jerome Richey, chief legal officer and executive vice president for CONSOL Energy, has been named general counsel at the University of Pittsburgh, the school announced today. The appointment is effective March. 1

Mr. Richey succeeds Jerome Cochran, who since 2004 has served as Pitt executive vice chancellor and general counsel. Mr. Cochran will remain executive vice chancellor, the university's chief business officer.

Mr. Richey has a bachelor's degree in philosophy and a law degree, both from Pitt.

The university said he has been in private practice since 1974, initially with Moorhead & Knox, which merged into Buchanan Ingersoll, now known as Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney, in 1981.

In 2005, Richey moved to CONSOL Energy as general counsel and corporate secretary, and in 2009 he became chief legal officer and executive vice president. Pitt said that this month, CONSOL gave Mr. Richey additional responsibilities as executive vice president-- corporate projects.
