The board of governors of the State System of Higher Education today named Brig. Gen. Francis L. Hendricks president of Mansfield University of Pennsylvania, effective Jan. 1.

Gen. Hendricks served for five years as commander and deputy commander of the Army and Air Force Exchange Service in Dallas and is a 1979 graduate of what was then Mansfield State College.

According to the State System, he is the only one of 14 State System university presidents to have graduated from the same school.

The campus is in Mansfield, north of the Tioga State Forest.

For the past year, Allan J. Golden has served as interim president.
