With an eye toward attracting more international students to Pittsburgh, GlobalPittsburgh and the U.S. Department of Commerce today signed a memorandum of understanding to work together to increase the international exposure of area colleges and universities.

The effort will focus on attracting students from Vietnam, China and Brazil.

Under the memo of understanding, GlobalPittsburgh along with the Pittsburgh office of the U.S. Commercial Service of the U.S. Department of Commerce's International Trade Administration will support the Global Pittsburgh Education Partnership, which is a consortium of Pittsburgh-area colleges, universities and graduate schools.

Global Pittsburgh started a Study Pittsburgh initiative in 2011 to attract more international students to the region.

GlobalPittsburgh formerly was known as the Pittsburgh Council for International Visitors.
