Duquesne schools recovery officer given extension to develop financial plan

The chief recovery officer of the Duquesne City School District has been granted an extension to Jan. 31 to develop a financial recovery plan for the district.
Pennsylvania education secretary Ron Tomalis granted the extension to Paul Long, whom he named chief recovery officer on Nov. 16.
Without the extension, Mr. Long had 30 days to create an advisory committee, hold four public meetings and compose a financial recovery plan.
An email from Mr. Long today indicated an advisory committee has been formed and the schedule for the public forums will be released soon.
The action in Duquesne is the result of state financial recovery legislation. Three other school districts -- Chester Upland, Harrisburg and York -- also fall under the legislation.
