College graduation commencements announced

The commencement season around the region began with ceremonies Saturday at Point Park University, the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg and the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. Here's a list of upcoming college and university commencement ceremonies:

Today

Lincoln University, 1:30 p.m., Track and Field.

Thiel College, 2 p.m., William A. Passavant Center.

University of Pittsburgh, main campus, 2 p.m., Petersen Events Center. Speaker: John A. Swanson, founder of ANSYS Inc.

May 6

Westmoreland County Community College, 6 p.m., Founders Hall gymnasium, Youngwood campus. Speaker: WTAE-TV Westmoreland County Bureau Chief Jennifer Miele.

May 7

Duquesne University, 5 p.m., A.J. Palumbo Center. Speaker: Sister Margaret Carney, president of St. Bonaventure University, who will receive an honorary degree. Other honorary degree recipients: Sister Patricia Daly, executive director of Tri-State Coalition for Responsible Investment, and Linda Darling-Hammond, the Charles Ducommon Professor of Education at Stanford University.

Geneva College, graduate and adult education ceremony, 7:30 p.m., Metheny Fieldhouse. Speaker: David Harvey, professor of psychology and counseling and coordinator of the school counseling program at Geneva.

Robert Morris University, graduate ceremony, 4:30 p.m., Sewall Center Arena. Speaker: Dennis Yablonsky, chief executive officer of the Allegheny Conference on Community and Economic Development and former Pennsylvania secretary of community and economic development.

California University of Pennsylvania, graduate ceremony, 7 p.m., Hamer Hall auditorium. Speaker: Robert E. Eberly Jr., who became an author and Civil War historian after retiring from the General Counsel's Office of the U.S. Navy.

May 8

California University of Pennsylvania, undergraduate ceremony, 10 a.m., in Adamson Stadium. Speaker: Fred Gladney, corporate executive in the information technology sector, currently a business and executive coach. Honorary degree: Craig Shoemaker, an award-winning comedian.

Carlow University, 1 p.m., Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall. Speaker: Lynda Katz, president of Landmark College in Putney, Vt.

Clarion University of Pennsylvania, Morning and afternoon ceremonies, Waldo Tippin Gymnasium. 10 a.m. for College of Education and Human Services and the College of Business Administration; 2 p.m. for College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Nursing and Allied Health and the Division of Student Affairs. Speaker: Dr. Arthur Steffee, retired surgeon and Clarion County leader in community and economic development. He will receive an honorary Doctor of Public Service award at the morning ceremony.
