CCAC trustees approve average 3 percent raises in 2013-14

About 330 faculty, counselors, librarians and educational technicians at Community College of Allegheny County will see an average 3 percent increase in wages in 2013-14 under provisions of a wage re-opener approved by school trustees late today.
The re-opener, effective Sept. 1, is part of a labor pact between CCAC and Local 2067 of the American Federation of Teachers. The current agreement that took effect in 2011 included raises averaging 3 percent in 2011-12; 3.25 percent in 2012-13 and a provision allowing 2013-14 to be negotiated at a later time, CCAC spokesman David Hoovler said.
Salaries across the bargaining unit average $65,000, he said. The increase is expected to cost CCAC $650,000.
There were several other pay-related changes approved by trustees under the re-opener in areas including required travel between multiple work locations and costs related to required certifications and other professional work.
The union earlier voted to ratify the re-opener, which was negotiated between CCAC administrators and the union bargainers, Mr. Hoovler said.
It was added as an action item at today's meeting after an executive session conducted by the board, which met on the North Side's Allegheny campus.
