A woman driving in the wrong direction early this morning in Westmoreland County died after a head-on collision with another vehicle, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Trooper Steve Limani in the Greensburg barracks said the woman was driving east in the westbound lane of Route 30 in Hempfield when she crashed head-on into another vehicle about 2:10 a.m. near the East Pittsburgh ramp.

The Allegheny County medical examiner's office identified the woman as 27-year-old Tiffany Alcorn of Hunker. She was pronounced dead at 4:42 a.m. at UPMC Presbyterian, where she was flown after the crash.

Trooper Limani said Ms. Alcorn crashed into a vehicle driven by 24-year-old Robert Horn, of Greensburg, who was was flown to Allegheny General Hospital with injuries.

He will likely be released this week, Trooper Limani said.

A third vehicle was hit in the crash but its driver was uninjured.

Trooper Limani said he can remember four or five fatal crashes over the last few years involving drivers going the wrong direction on that busy stretch of road.

"Unfortunately, it happens more often than we'd like to see it happen," he said.

State police are awaiting toxicology reports and will review them as part of the investigation.
