Woman gets 5 to 10 years in fatal traffic accident

A New Kensington woman was sentenced Monday to five to 10 years in prison for killing another woman in a car crash while fleeing police.
Kayla Dawn Hoffman, 29, pleaded guilty to third-degree murder before Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Joseph K. Williams III. In addition to the prison term, the judge ordered her to serve an additional period of probation.
According to police, Hoffman was seen Feb. 18 driving the wrong way on Robinson Boulevard in Penn Hills when she collided with a car driven by Kayla Johnson-Ukeyne, 25, of Verona. Ms. Johnson-Ukeyne died at the scene.
Police tried to stop Hoffman before the crash, but she fled on Verona Road, swerving at times into oncoming traffic to pass cars.
She also pleaded guilty to driving under the influence and to drug charges.
