A Westmoreland County man was arraigned today on charges that he shook his 8-week-old daughter, leaving her with a brain injury.

Matthew Milisits, 30, of Vandergift, was being held in the Westmoreland County Prison on $500,000 bail tonight after police charged him with aggravated assault, simple assault, endangering the welfare of a child, recklessly endangering another person and harassment.

State police from Kittanning wrote in a news release that Mr. Milisits' daughter was unresponsive when he took her to her mother in North Apollo Thursday morning. Medics took the girl to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, where she was listed in critical condition. Troopers said Mr. Milisits confessed to shaking the girl after he became angry with her.

Mr. Milisits' attorney declined to comment tonight.
