The Westmoreland County coroner will hold an open inquest Tuesday into the death of Seth W. O'Donnell, who was shot by a state trooper in an East Huntingdon strip mall parking lot Jan. 4.

A coroner's inquest is typical for officer-involved shootings, said Trooper Stephen Limani of the Pennsylvania State Police Greensburg barracks.

The inquest is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Westmoreland County Courthouse, Coroner Kenneth Bacha said in a press release.

State police said Mr. O'Donnell stabbed the trooper in the head before the trooper shot him to death outside the Save-A-Lot at Crossroads Plaza. The coroner's office identified the trooper as Chad Cope.
