A Westmoreland County tax preparer was sentenced Thursday to three years of probation, including six months of home detention, for aiding people in preparing false returns.

Larry E. Snow, 62, of Seward, was charged in a 40-count indictment and admitted at his February guilty plea hearing that he filed $24,562 in false deductions on behalf of a client in 2005.

The deductions were for charitable contributions, personal property taxes, unreimbursed employee expenses and legal expenses.

U.S. District Judge Maurice B. Cohill imposed the sentence. The Internal Revenue Service's criminal investigations division conducted the probe.
