SUV kills pedestrian in Westmoreland County

A Westmoreland County man was killed when he was hit by an SUV in Unity Township Saturday night.

Robert W. Steininger, 41, of Youngstown was on foot when he was struck about 9:30 p.m. by an SUV traveling north on state Route 982, a half-mile north of state Route 30, the Westmoreland County coroner said in a news releases via Twitter.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The autopsy ruled the death accidental and revealed Mr. Steininger died from injuries to his head, chest and abdomen.

Pennsylvania State Police in Greensburg investigated the incident.
