Rt. 30 crash kills man

One person was killed in a crash Thursday morning in Hempfield.

Jeffrey Horner Jr., 22, of Irwin, was driving east on Route 30 at a "high rate of speed" when he crossed the center line near the intersection with Possum Hollow Road about 9:15 a.m. and collided with a dump truck, according to the Westmoreland County coroner's office.

Mr. Horner, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown out of his car and died at the scene. The truck driver was not injured.
