An e-mail that threatened gun violence at Franklin Regional High School in Murrysville yesterday morning is believed to have come from someone who hacked into a students' account using a server in the Czech Republic, Murrysville police said.
Principal Tina Burns received an e-mail Monday night that threatened gun violence at 9 yesterday morning, according to the district's Web site. The e-mail appeared to come from a ninth-grade student, police said.
Police locked down the school and conducted a thorough search of lockers and classrooms while students remained in their second period classes. At 10:15 a.m., when they did not find a gun, they ended the lockdown and school activities continued as usual.
In the meantime, police were able to trace the e-mail back to a proxy server in the Czech Republic and said that someone used the server to hack into the student's e-mail account and send the threatening e-mail.
