A man died after police said a car making a left hit him this morning in Greensburg near Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital.

The Westmoreland County coroner's office identified the man this afternoon as John Spino, 56, of Greensburg.

Greensburg police Capt. George Seranko said the man, in his 50s, was not in a crosswalk when he stepped out onto Spring Avenue just before 7:30 a.m.

The driver of a Buick sedan had just made a left turn from West Newton onto Spring with a green light, then drove about 40 feet before hitting the man, Capt. Seranko said.

The man was stuck under the front of the car and crews pulled him out, Capt. Seranko said.

He was hit about a half block from the hospital, where he died.

The investigation is ongoing but police don't anticipate charging the driver.

Authorities did not release the name of driver early this afternoon.
