A Greensburg woman died and two men were injured when two cars collided on Route 22 in Salem, Westmoreland County, this afternoon, sending one of the cars up in flames.

Amanda Ciccarelli, 39, was driving west on Route 22 in a Mitsubishi Eclipse when she tried to turn left onto Scenic Drive about 4:30 p.m.

State police from the Kiski Valley barracks said she cut in front of an Audi A4 driven by Brandon Thiem, 25, of Derry. The cars collided. Passersby pulled Mr. Thiem and his passenger, Shaun Schantz, 23, of Pittsburgh, from the car before it went up in flames.

Ms. Ciccarelli died at the scene of the crash. Medics took Mr. Thiem to Excela Latrobe via ambulance and flew Mr. Schantz to Allegheny General Hospital, police said. Without going into detail, police said both men had "major" injuries.
