State police in Greensburg said speed is believed to have played a role in a fatal crash that occurred Saturday night in Mount Pleasant, Westmoreland County.

The crash happened in the 2400 block of School Street at about 5:15 p.m.

Police say a car traveling "at a high rate of speed" struck two utility poles, rolled over, then hit a tree. Three occupants were ejected, killing passenger Corey Maximchalk of Mount Pleasant, and seriously injuring the driver, Scott Leighliter, and passenger Patrick Marshala. The injured men were flown by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital. Police did not indicate anyone's age. Mr. Leighliter is a resident of Latrobe.
