A Vandergrift man was ordered to stand trial today on charges that he attempted to drown a woman's 4-year-old son in a backyard pool last week.

A judge found at a preliminary hearing this morning that there was enough evidence to hold Edward Wisniewski, 30, for trial on charges of attempted homicide, reckless endangerment, child endangerment, simple assault and terroristic threats.

Vandergrift officers arrested Mr. Wisniewski last week after a pregnant woman told police that he fought with her, thew her down on a chair, choked and beat her in the 400 block of Emerson Street.

The woman's 4-year-old son cursed at Mr. Wisniewski, who picked the boy up by his head and threw him into the pool, which contained about 4 feet of water, police wrote in a criminal complaint.

Mr. Wisniewski retrieved the boy from the water and told his mother she was lucky he did.

When officers found Mr. Wisniewski, they said he smelled strongly of alcohol and was fighting another man who had interfered in the fight between Mr. Wisniewski and the boy's mother.
