State police have arrested three people involved in a botched robbery that left one man dead in Derry Township and are still searching for the killer.
Michael Volk, 24, of New Florence was driven by his girlfriend to a mobile home on Stone Quarry Road around 1 p.m. Saturday with the intention of robbing a drug dealer, state police in Greensburg said. Instead, he became the victim when the man he tried to rob shot him in the head twice and killed him.
The night before the shooting, Mr. Volk went to the residence to purchase drugs from the suspect called "Mitch."
The couple living at the home, Jesus Santiago, 42, and Tiffany Blattenberger, 22, and the victim's girlfriend, Danielle Clawson, 23, of New Florence told police he conspired to return Saturday and rob "Mitch" of drugs and money.
Police said Mr. Santiago, Ms. Blattenberger and Ms. Clawson helped to plan the robbery that led to Mr. Volk's death and arrested them Sunday on charges of conspiracy to commit criminal homicide and conspiracy to commit robbery.
All three were lodged in Westmoreland County Prison.
Ms. Blattenberger told police she and Ms. Clawson were held as hostages at gunpoint for a half-hour by the suspect. He later fled in a sporty two-door, two-tone maroon car.
Police described "Mitch" as a black male, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, 180 to 200 pounds, wearing gray sweat pants, gray hooded sweat shirt, and an Oakland Raiders winter skull cap. Witnesses said one of his front teeth is chipped.
Anyone with any information regarding this incident is asked to call state police at Greensburg, 724-832-3288.
