Irwin police are investigating after a man crashed a pick-up truck early Thursday morning into a funeral home.

The man, whose name police are not releasing, was in surgery last night at Allegheny General Hospital, but his condition was unavailable this morning.

Police said the man, in his 20s, crashed the Ford F-150 pick-up into Snyder Funeral Home at 521 Main St. shortly before 12:15 a.m. He was trapped inside the truck and was helped out by emergency services personnel and first responders at the scene.

"Speed was definitely a factor," said Patrolman Bryan DeFelice, the investigating officer. He was unsure how fast the man was driving but noted the speed limit is 25 mph along the main thoroughfare.

The truck was "completely immobilized" but the funeral home -- built with three layers of brick -- experienced only small, exterior cosmetic damages, he said. No one else was injured.
