A Westmoreland County man jailed on charges he shook a 2-month-old baby so hard she suffered brain damage now faces a possible homicide charge because the baby has died.

State police said they anticipate filing the new charge against 30-year-old Matthew Milisits, of Vandergrift, who allegedly acknowledged shaking the baby on Thursday because she wouldn't stop crying. The baby was taken off life support at Children's Hospital of UPMC late Monday.

Mr. Milisits' attorney, Duke George, said he couldn't comment until after an autopsy and any new charge is filed. Mr. Milisits remained in the Westmoreland County Jail on Tuesday, unable to post $500,000 bond.

Police initially said the baby, Sophie Ludwiczak, was Mr. Milisits' child, but he has since said he isn't sure he was the child's biological father.
