A Westmoreland County man was charged with criminal homicide today after the 2-month-old baby Pennsylvania State Police accused him of shaking died last week.
The new charge against 30-year-old Matthew Milisits, of Vandergrift, follows previous assault and child endangerment charges filed earlier this month.
The baby, Sophie Ludwiczak, was taken off life support Nov. 19 at UPMC Mercy.
Milisits' attorney, Duke George, did not immediately return a call for comment. Mr. Milisits remains in the Westmoreland County Jail without bail on the latest charge.
State police said last week they anticipated fining the additional charges following the girl's death.
State police in Kittanning said Mr. Milisits confessed to shaking the girl after he became angry with her, leaving her with brain damage.
State police initially said Mr. Milisits was the baby's father, but he has since said he is unsure if she was his biological child.
