Greensburg police are looking for a man who is calling recently widowed women and telling them -- falsely, thankfully -- he's kidnapped a relative.

The man called two women in December, Lt. Robert Stafford said, telling both he had abducted a relative and tied them up. He used specific names in both cases.

Both women called police; one tracked down the supposedly missing relative herself.

Authorities believe the caller is pulling his targets from obituaries, looking for women who have recently lost a husband and using the names of their relatives as bait.

They don't yet have a fix on the man's identity, Lt. Stafford said.

"We're trying to track some numbers down," he said. "The more information we have, the better."

Both targets were Greensburg city residents. Anyone who is contacted by the man should call police immediately, Lt. Stafford said.

"It's a disheartening thing they're doing to somebody," he said.
