Friends of Michael Schaab, the 25-year-old geriatric therapist killed in the Western Psych shooting in March, will hold a charity softball tournament July 29 to honor him and his sister, who also died from gun violence.

The First Annual Schaab Memorial Softball Tournament will be held at the Penn Township Municipal Park in Harrison City. Proceeds will benefit CeaseFirePA, an advocacy group that aims to reduce gun violence.

Mr. Schaab played softball regularly with high school friends, the same group planning the event. He was the softball captain on a Pittsburgh Sports League team, who wore their uniforms to Mr. Schaab's funeral.

Mr. Schaab's sister, Nancy, died 16 months before the shooting rampage at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic.

As part of the July tournament, games, including adult, co-ed and slow pitch softball, will start as early as 8:30 a.m. and continue throughout the day.
