10-hour Westmoreland County standoff ends

A nearly 10-hour standoff in Westmoreland County ended early this morning with one person taken into custody and committed for mental evaluation, Pennsylvania State Police said.
Trooper Stephen Limani of the state police barracks in Greensburg said the standoff began about 10 p.m. Tuesday and ended this morning about 7:30 a.m in Kecksburg, a community in Mount Pleasant.
Police used tear gas to get the man to come out of his home, he said.
Trooper Limani said the man threatened to harm himself during the standoff and had shotguns inside his home near the intersection of Route 982 and Mennonite Camp Road.
No one was hurt, and the man was the only person home.
Negotiators attempted to get the man to come out. The state police Special Emergency Response Team created a perimeter around the scene about 3 a.m.
The man is currently at Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital. Trooper Limani said he does not expect charges will be filed.
